New York: Harcourt Brace Jovanovich, 1972. First edition. Hardcovers. Two volumes with a total of 721 pages. Translated from the French by Jean Stewart. Aragon was perhaps best known as a poet but his writing here makes this one of the best books on Matisse. The combined illustrations between the two volumes is 541 of which 155 are in color. Both volumes are in near fine condition with Vol 1 having a small spot the bottom edge of the front board and a small spot to the foredge. Both dust jackets have some edge wear and small tears to the spine ends and corners. In a very good red cloth slipcase that has some minor wear. A clean set. Please note that this is heavy and oversized set that will likely require extra shipping charges.
