New York: Simon and Schuster, 1931. First edition. Hardcover. First printing. The first book from this very important American photographer. Preface by Maurice Hindus. Text and black and white photographs by Bourke-White taken throughout Russia while she was on assignment for Fortune magazine. A tight near fine copy with some slight darkening to the top edge of the boards in an about very good dust jacket that has a number of chips and tears that have been strengthened on the verso. Signed and warmly inscribed on the front free endpaper: "To Edna Robb Webster with best regards Margaret Bourke-White." The recipient was an explorer and novelist. A solid copy with the uncommon dust jacket and a nice association.
