Sweeney Astray (Signed Association Copy).
New York: Farrar Straus and Giroux, 1983. First U.S. edition and first printing. Hardcover. 85 pages. Heaney's version of the medieval Irish work "Buile Suibhne." A tight near fine copy in paper covered boards with a cloth spine with some slight offsetting to the rear pastedown and in a near fine dust jacket with some of the usual toning to the flaps and some slight sunning to the spine. Signed and humorously inscribed by Heaney on the front free endpaper: "To Sandy from Heaney Astray in Princeton 24 April 1991." A terrific copy as the recipient was fellow poet J.D. McClatchy. Heaney used McClatchy's nickname Sandy which indicated a closeness to him that was formed over numerous years of overlapping appearances at various poetry events and common experiences.
